Kakapo Recovery Programme

I met Don Merton on Little Barrier Island and was able to congratulate him for his phantastic work. We were feeding the Kakapos with almonds walnuts and bits of apple and a special honey-water mix. Clearing and setting the rat traps (bait: white chocolate lentil-shaped sweets worked best) was part of the job. I even had to kill a few Kiore rat that were still alive!! We frequently would find kakapo feathers on the path to the summit. Kakapo feathers wonderously smell exactly like frankincense. As a former catholic altar boy I should know! During one of my stays Richard Henry and one of the spinsters made eggs. and it was my choice of apple that baited the cage that caught the kakapo that lost its transmitter. It was alos the last kakapo that came off the island. Fabulous Dave Barker's dogs weren't needed, I think. I would really like to meet everybody again. Write me an email if you find this page and remember me.
